DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in the year 1993 with the idea of equipping young people with the necessary technical knowledge and professional skills needed to address the challenges in the rapidly growing field of Electronics and Communication Engineering and promoting research in this area headed by Prof. Vijayabharathi M.

ECE department is a dynamic and vibrant department with 15 highly qualified, experienced, GATE qualified and dedicated faculty members. The department meets the growing requirement of practical design engineers in the country and abroad. The curriculum in Electronics and Communication Engineering lays greater emphasis on design principles and development of Communication models, Signal Processing, Image processing, Embedded Systems and VLSI. The young, dynamic and dedicated Staff members have succeeded in establishing the highest standards of coaching the students and to equip them to face the future with confidence. The Department is also successful in achieving VTU ranks.

Program Outcomes (POs)
At the end of the B.E program, students are expected to have developed the following outcomes:
  1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialisation to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

This laboratory provides a platform to describe the structure and behavior of electronic circuits, and most commonly, digital logic circuits. It also allows for the simulation and synthesis of a HDL description into a netlist which can then be placed and routed to produce the set of masks used to create an integrated circuit. The advanced communication laboratory covers design and verification of the concepts of modern digital communication system that operates from MHz to GHz range. Optical communication deals with the study of the characteristics of fiber optics. The lab deals with the study of analog experiments based on analog and digital modulation and demodulation techniques.

The laboratory provides hands-on experience to students in the field of analog and digital circuit design to conduct world class research. The laboratory is designed to expose the students to a set of tools for CMOS design, starting with circuit simulation and leading to physical layout, design rule checking, and extracted circuit simulation. Students gain knowledge in using EDA tools to design, simulate, and verify schematics and layout of logic gates. The VLSI laboratory is well equipped with the most up-to-date industry standard VLSI tool Cadence.

This Laboratory is designed to have two cycles of experiments. In first cycle of experiments students will have exposure to open source software called Network Simulator Version 2 (NS-2) for simulation and Programmers Note Pad for writing the programs. In NS-2 students will perform simulation of wired as well as wireless network functions and Protocols. In second cycle of experiments students uses Turbo C++ which gives them the knowledge of C Programming, thus developing Network Protocols and routing Protocols.
